End-to-End Geomatics Support for Commercial Construction

Services:

  • Pre-construction and construction surveys
  • Subsurface utility locating
  • Geospatial surveys (3D Scanning, UAV, LiDAR, Hydrography, GIS)
  • As-built surveys
  • Alignment surveys
  • Control surveys and monitoring
  • Legal surveys

Scanning Solutions

3D laser scanning captures highly accurate detail in a fraction of the time it takes using conventional survey methods. This unobtrusive survey is safe, thorough and cost-efficient; reducing facility downtime and return visits to the site.

Utilization

  • As-built surveys of civil and mechanical installations
  • High-definition surveys
  • Infrastructure and construction projects
  • Fabrication and engineering
  • Project design and planning
  • Measurements of inaccessible or unsafe areas quantity surveys, earthworks and volumetric reporting
  • Objects and architecture with historic or archaeological importance
  • Accident investigation and analysis

Deliverables

  • 3D CAD, Revit, Navisworks models
  • Contour plans
  • Point cloud
  • Surface Tin
  • Elevation “heat” maps
  • 3D PDF

BIM-to-Scan in Action

At Churchill Station, GeoVerra delivered a comprehensive BIM-to-Scan solution to support the Edmonton Police Service’s GIS-based safety system—improving incident response in complex underground environments.

Using NavVis VLX3 mobile mapping, UAV data capture, and terrestrial scanning, our team created a fully integrated 3D model of both underground and above-ground environments. All data was tied to survey control and developed into a Revit model for seamless use within ESRI applications.

The Result

  • 15,000m² of area
  • 100% site coverage
  • 2 ½ hours of data collection time
  • 16 hours of processing time + QC
  • 10x increase in spatial intelligence
  • 6mm relative accuracy / 2–3cm absolute accuracy
  • 5mm final resolution (distance between 3D points)

Deliverables

  • Panoramic 360 photos: 356 panoramic photos (1424 individual photos)
  • Point cloud BIM
  • Model
  • Client Portal
  • Inventory reports
  • Mesh

Timeline

  • Point cloud was ready within 3 business days
  • Model delivered 2 weeks after point cloud completion

High-Detail GIS & Mobile Scanning

GeoVerra completed a detailed survey of Prince Rupert, extracting a total of 15,670 features (excluding ground grid shots or text), covering a total distance of approximately 9 km with buffers up to the property line.

The Result

  • 8.4 km of area collected
  • Estimated ~50 days for traditional topo survey (no UG locates)
  • Full ROW width plus a small overlap into private properties
  • No traffic control required
  • Collects all features in detail, including overhead lines
  • 3 days of field data collection, including preparation, control, and mapping
  • Video content area: 1 field day sufficient in good weather

The Deliverables

  • 9 km of distance
  • 15,670 different features extracted (not including ground grid shots or text)
